Has the Gold iPhone lost its shine?
Revealing pre-order registration stats show Gold is now the least popular colour selection for the iPhone 6s.
Back in 2013 when Apple launched the Gold iPhone 5s, it was an instant hit and harder to find than a polar bear in a snowstorm. Sales of Gold quickly overtook Silver and, had more stock been available, it might even have trumped Space Grey - which accounted for just over 50 percent of total sales.
Which colour iPhone 6s will be popular?
Gold has stolen Silver's crown as the least popular iPhone colour choice but that doesn't mean that our love of all things shiny has dissipated. In fact, as you can see from the table below, we’re just a fickle bunch eagerly anticipating the introduction of a new Rose Gold iPhone.
This is a change from previous launches, including this year's Apple Watch and iPod Touch, where Space Grey has been the preferred colour. As we are unlikely to see many units of Rose Gold released at launch (Apple like to test the water with new colourways), it's probable that Space Grey will still be the biggest seller.
What does this mean for iPhone 6s availability?
If we do see the introduction of a Rose Gold iPhone 6s then expect it to sell out fast. Going on previous sales figures, Apple is likely to release more units of Space Grey. However this is a classic colour and always popular so again, this is likely to be out of stock with many of the mobile networks following the launch. If you want to go for the safest option and you're not too particular about your iPhone colour, then opt for a Gold or Silver model.
